Bras D’Eau National Park

In 2011, Bras D’Eau was established as the second terrestrial National Park of Mauritius. Located in the northeast of the country, it is one of the most popular sites for trekking. Once you get deep inside the forest, you will encounter exotic trees such as Tecoma and Eucalyptus as well as birds like Kestrels, woodpeckers, and flycatchers.

There are also ruins of sugar mills and the Mauritius radio telescope.

“The name Bras D’Eau is derived from winding water stretching inland from the sea.”

Black River Gorges

We have mentioned this several times in our previous articles but Black River Gorges remains an iconic and famous park among Mauritians. With several indigenous plants, birds, bats, and waterfalls, it is like rich biodiversity.

You can start your trekking from the entrance of Petrin which is located on the route to Grand Bassin. Following the trails, you will be able to feast your eyes on magnificent trees and hike to the waterfalls. The park is open every day till around 5 pm.

Ebony Forest

This is like killing 2 birds with one stone! The ebony forest is just next to the 7 coloured earths in Chamarel. It is a protected endemic site where you can even volunteer in their conservation program and bring a positive impact.

By visiting Ebony forest you will be able to:
